Volvo’s new engine family offers an excellent combination of powerful performance, high efficiency and low emissions. HEICO SPORTIV is now the first supplier to offer a matching performance enhancement program for the “downsizing engines”.
Improving performance without compromising efficiency does not have to be a contradiction. HEICO SPORTIV has already been proving this for many years with its e.motion® performance enhancement program. But the development of the T5 variant based on the new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine with direct fuel injection and turbo-charging posed a new set of challenges for the team from Weiterstadt, near Frankfurt. “The new Drive-E engines are already highly efficient when they leave the factory, and have a highly complex bunch of engine electronics,” explains Martin Müller, Chief Product Developer for the new generation of engines. “Our mission was to squeeze out even more performance and torque, while retaining the same CO2 emission levels.”
The measurement data captured by TÜV Rheinland prove their success: the “before-after comparison” failed to register any change in the already-good fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of the series-produced and performance-enhanced vehicles. Despite a rise in engine power from 180 kW (245 hp) to 197 kW (268 hp). Even more impressive – and more tangible in everyday use – is the 60 Nm rise in torque, to a maximum of 410 Nm. With this, the Volvo V60 T5 AT, for example, accelerates to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds (as opposed to 6.9 seconds for the series-produced vehicle), reaching a maximum speed of 230 km/h (throttled). The rigorous EU6 pollution grading is naturally retained.
This result and the awesome driving experience are made possible by HEICO SPORTIV’s proprietary-developed e.motion® engine technology. HEICO SPORTIV e.motion® works in parallel with the original control unit, operating independently as a second “brain”. The intelligent control electronics capture all the relevant engine data, selectively increasing performance and torque. The result is a significant improvement in acceleration from stand-still and in-gear acceleration, and an optimization of the vehicle’s response characteristics and fuel consumption. Starting from the date of the initial registration of the e.motion® upgrade, HEICO SPORTIV offers a 60-month guarantee (up to a maximum of 150.000 km), the scope and settlement of which is inspired by the Volvo OEM guarantee (country specific). A competitive advantage which is unique in the industry and is included in the price.
The HEICO SPORTIV e.motion® ECU T5 will be available for the Volvo S60 and V60 T5 models from week 13 – initially for the version with the new 8-speed automatic transmission. Further engine and transmission variants are set to follow shortly.
